Makedonski Telekom and ICS Consulting Engineering successfully finished VDSL2 vectoring testing

Havinginto consideration customers’ constant demands for higher access speeds, Makedonski Telekom, besides ongoing installation of FTTH (Fibre To The Home), started exploring new possibilities for providing higher speeds. The search for different possibilities is imposed by the Rulebook for public electronic communications networks and associated facilities construction, which enforce the obligation for the operators to ensure a provisioning of Internet access speeds of over 30 Mbit/s for 30% of the households covered by their network, by 2016.

Consequently, ICS Consulting Engineering with its business partner Alcatel-Lucent provided VDSL2 Vectoring equipment, subscribers’ equipment and experts for testing it. It was tested in a laboratory conditions jointly with experts from Makedonski Telekom.

VDSL2 Vectoring is a noise-cancelling technology that eliminates interference between the VDSL2 lines, in a way that each VDSL2 line can work its best and deliver major transmission speeds. This technology can achieve speeds of 100 Mbit/s over distances up to 600 m. The advantages of VDSL2 (Vectoring) is the fast implementation and the low investment costs compared to FTTH option.

The results of the practical tests have shown that VDSL2 technology provides an average speed per line of over 70 Mbit/s, and benefits are greater by activating vectoring the,  so that the average speed per line exceeds 95 Mbit/s for distances of 600 m.
